In our office, we get really excited about things like yum emojis and blender butter, but we’re also normal people with lives outside of food. So this weekend, we’re going to make ourselves some popcorn, open a bottle of rosé, and find out who will be taking home an Oscar.

Of course, in the lead up to the big night, we had to put our spin on the year’s best films. We’ve picked out our favorite potato recipes in a nod to The Martian‘s tater-growing protagonist, discussed the health benefits of eating liver like Leo in The Revenant, and examined how the Brooklyn restaurant scene has changed since the 1950s, when the fictional Eilis Lacey arrived from Ireland in the nominee for Best Picture.

We were thrilled to discover that the characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens actually eat (take that, Star Trek), and while we didn’t come to a consensus over Inside Out‘s claim that San Francisco ruined pizza, we definitely have strong opinions on the subject of pizza from the Bay and elsewhere.
