And to answer your first question: Yes, it’s good for you too.

In case you’re not familiar with it, and we’re guessing you aren’t, this is the black sapote. It’s a member of the persimmon family and is often called simply the “chocolate pudding fruit.”

Before you go hunting for this sweet treat at your farmers’ market, keep in mind that it only gets that rich, chocolate pudding flavor when it is really ripe. Which means that for those of us in the United States, we’ll have to wait until it’s in season in December.
