It’s October, which means you’re probably going apple picking this weekend, right? And after you make the requisite apple crisp and apple dumplings, this recipe for chocolate-dipped apples on a stick is the most fun you’ll have with your apple haul.

I’d argue that these chocolate-covered apples are way better than caramel apples. For one, you don’t have to worry about the potentially dangerous, messy process of making your own caramel on the stovetop. Also, caramel apples are not always the easiest to eat. I mean, you’re biting into a big ol’ apple covered in sticky caramel.

But this recipe has two smart fixes. First, you cut your apples into thin slices so they’re easier to manage. Second, you dip your apple slices into melted chocolate instead of caramel. Just temper some dark chocolate (you can easily do this in the microwave!), stir in some coconut oil, dunk your apples in to coat them, and then place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Then comes the best part: adding the toppings. The author went with sprinkles, granola, shredded coconut, mini chocolate chips, and nuts. She even had some store-bought caramel sauce for drizzling on top, which means you can still get your caramel apple fix. Win!
