Weekends are for adventuring. Maybe that means you take a day trip to check out a new-to-you area, maybe that means you go for a 3-mile hike, or maybe that means you spend all day cleaning and tackling your to-do list. Regardless of what your weekend looks like, you’re going to need some fuel. Instead of grabbing a granola bar or some trail mix (that’s for boring weekdays, guys), treat yourself to some of these trail mix cookies!

These cookies are a riff on trail mix, the original “healthyish” snack. With rolled oats, whole-wheat flour, cinnamon, nuts, seeds, and dried fruit, these cookies are hearty and wholesome, but the butter, brown sugar, and dark chocolate chunks keep you from feeling like you’re eating a sad energy bar.

The best part about trail mix is how easy it is to adapt to your preferences, and the same is true for these cookies. For the dried fruit, try cherries, cranberries, raisins, or currants; for the nuts, try pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts, or almonds; for the seeds, try pepitas or sunflower seeds. The choice is yours! Go wild!

Bake up a batch of these and know that you have a sweet treat to share with your friends and family this weekend.
